Saas-Fee resort shows the WSG test team why summer boarding’s great

Anyone who thought boarding was just for the winter should have come to the World Snowboard Guide board test in Saas-Fee last weekend. What a blast we had. Not only did we test many of next year’s boards, but we rode the pipe, the park and burnt it up down the board-x. Saas-Fee’s summer area is great to keep those riders who just can’t wait till next winter, but it’s not for those who can’t get up early. Lifts open at 7.00 and the first few hours of the day are the best for riding, with the whole area closing down by 13.00.
The WSG test team with VIP passes were up on an early Gondola, with the Saas-Fee staff, at 6.45 each morning, taking advantage of the morning conditions before the ever so hot sun turned it all to slush. By 13.00 the team were sunning themselves with beer in hand, looking out over a backdrop of glaciers, feeling good but tired after what felt like a full days boarding. Many a board was praised and slated over a pint, while we filled in our test forms. The new brand 24 Seven got some riders buzzing as did the Head and Atomic boards, while the more well know brands Burton, K2 and Ride are still making top end boards. React Snowboards, a UK brand, kept the team grinning with their R type model seeing plenty of park action. To see the test results in full check out the new guide, which will be available in October.
