Mt.Hood Summer Guide
Mount Hood in North West America has a good summer riding area, with a mile long piste (long for a summer run) which is great for beginners. The resort is open from late November until August so plenty of riding is available. There is a park but it’s out of bounds as it’s restricted to High Cascade camp members. See www.skihood.com for prices and timings.
Summer Camp World renowned is almost a realistic claim for High Cascade summer camps with 2 pipes a huge selection of rails, hips, boxes and jumps all designed and built by Pat Malendoski of Planet Snow Design, builder of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Superpipe. There are no restrictions on riding standard with even complete beginners are welcome.
Campers are split into ability groups and with jumps from 5 to 70 foot there truly is something for everyone. Places are available for 9 year olds to adults. Adult camps are aimed at all levels of progressive freestyle with a maximum of four snowboarders to every coach, and use video analysis. All camps are held in High Cascades private park and pipes. It all sounds great, but here is the drawback: $1800 gets you a one week adult camp, kids camps start at $1400. www.highcascade.com
Windells also run camps at Mt Hood, see www.windells.com –there’s a variety of week and day camps available from 6th June until 11th August. A full week costs $1,298 - 1,695
