The Breck Park crew has been working overtime lately. Between their perfectly cut pipe, the monster slopestyle course, their jib contest lines and the public parks, I was amazed at how much they had set up despite the lack of snow. They used manmade snow to shape all the obstacles, so on a day with these conditions (blowing, cold and overcast) the landings were rock hard. That didn't stop these ballsy mofos from absolutly chucking their meat. I can't even recall how many 9s and 10s we saw, and even a few 12s and some double corks.... over rock hard landings....... These guys deserve to get paid. Shaun White came out with a good first run, a cab 10, sbs 9 and a front 10... but Mikkel Bang took him out the next run and took the lead with a smooth cab 7, and a SBS 9 and a stomped 10. Unfortunately, Travis Rice wasn't there. Andreas Wiig overshot the jumps with huge 12s during his final runs which put him in 4th.

Some rookies like Sam Hulbert, Charles Reid and Janne Korpi from Finland made great showings, tossing huge rodeo 9s and even a double cork or two, although not in the finals because of an early-run crash. But during warm up runs these guys had the crowd freaking out. Janne ended up with 3rd place with a sick run including a fucking huge, stomped rodeo 9. Some heavyweights like Mason Aguirre, Kevin Pearce, Heikki Sorsa, Chas Guldemond, and Torstien Horgmo couldn't put together super solid runs with these gnarly conditions, although they were throwing DOWN in the prelims and warm ups. Torstien had a great run going in the finals until he crashed on the last kicker doing a SWB 14. Yea. In the last run, sitting in 2nd place, Shaun came out with a front 10, a backside 9, and then a cab 12 which he stomped the piss out of. That gave him some rediculous score, and so Mikkel had to top it on his last run. Instead, he did a nice seven, a huge styley backside three, a method over the rail and then sprayed the spectators at the bottom. I don't know about the people who got sprayed, but that was my favorite run of the day. I could give a shit about shaun's textbook dradel spin 12, I'd rather see a gaper get iced any day.
