Nokia Air & Style 2006 - Munich

2 December 06

Olympia Stadium, Munich, Germany. An electric atmosphere lit the official heat draw of Round One of the season’s first Northern Hemisphere TTR Six(6) Star event, the Nokia Air & Style 2006, scheduled for Saturday 2nd December at Munich’s Olympic Stadium.

Eight invitational snowboard stars consisting of 6 riders from the TTR Ranking List Top Ten 05/06, the Rookie Winner of Air & Style 05, and the world’s greatest wildcard, Olympic Halfpipe champion Shaun White (USA), waited with bated breath whilst the Top 8 return riders from Air & Style 2005 announced their opponent’s name from a hat-draw at Munich’s premium nightclub, P1, at 22.50 CET.

Draw results include Air & Style 2005 defending title-holder, Hampus Mosesson (SWE) vs. Torstein Horgmo (NOR), last year’s Rookie Winner; TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion 05/06 Mathieu Crepel (FRA) vs. Christophe Schmidt (GER), the local hero; Air & Style return rider, Sani Alibabic (AUT) vs. Shaun White (USA), two-times Air & Style winner, back after an Olympic commitment year.

Following the Southern Hemisphere leg, the Nokia Air & Style 06 will provide first-time placements on the TTR Ranking List for many riders as they battle for the prestigious 1000 TTR Championships points win. With possible Top Ten TTR Ranking List positions for Nicolas Müller (SUI), Chris Kröll (AUT) and Risto Mattila (FIN), based on an accumulative average of contest results divisible by ‘6’, the Nokia Air & Style 06 sets the stage for the next five months of back-to-back, world-class snowboard action in the drama to crown the world’s next TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion.

‘Thursday was probably the best training session at Air & Style ever seen; with the ramp so smooth it’s giving the riders a chance to have real fun. We are expecting a huge crowd, close to a 30,000 audience sell-out,’ states Andrew Hourmont, Air & Style Founder & Organiser.

With the strongest list of riders seen in recent history - Hampus Mosesson (SWE) defending his Air & Style title; Mathieu Crepel (FRA) starting his TTR title defence; and two-year consecutive Air & Style winner Shaun White (USA) returning after a year’s Olympic sabbatical – the scene is set for the greatest contest Germany will ever see.

'I’m stoked on coming back and riding with such a great crew of riders. I always try to do my best and last year I was just lucky. Let’s see what the night brings,’ says Hampus Mosesson, reigning Air & Style Champion.
