Winter Games NZ

22-30 August 09

The Games will showcase the best of winter sports over the four international resorts of Coronet Peak, The Remarkable, Snow Farm and Cardrona within the picturesque Queenstown/Lake Wanaka region featuring alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and free skiing and adaptive snow sports. The small town of Naseby in Central Otago, home of New Zealand curling, will host teams curling while the coastal city of Dunedin will be the venue for figure skating and ice hockey. Winter triathlon will also feature in the programme, but as a demonstration event.

The programme has been designed to provide a strong representation for all sports, including adaptive snow sports, and to give athletes an opportunity to gain valuable competition experience in an elite environment prior to Vancouver in 2010. Spectators will have free access to all the events, including the opening and closing ceremonies while TV audiences around the globe will be able to enjoy the only winter sports event of this kind in the world.
