Copper celebrates first tracks and the coming of another snowy winter with the second annual Lift Off opening weekend festival and season kick off party, Nov. 3-5. In addition to getting first tracks at Copper, guests can enjoy a weekend filled with live music from Blackalicious, the Drew Emmitt Band, Strive Roots and others, film premiers, ski and snowboard demos from Burton and Salomon, après parties, giveaways and more.
Friday night features free screenings of new ski and snowboard films: “Wear It Well” from White Out Films, “Steady As She Snows” and “Thanks For Nothing” from FYC Pictures, “When in Doubt, Lay it Out” from Role Model Productions and “Last Winter” from the UK-based Chunkyknit Productions.
Saturday and Sunday bring live music to Burning Stones Plaza with the Drew Emmitt Band, White Water Ramble and Strive Roots playing free outdoor shows during the day while Blackalicious, with openers Black Pegasus, play a paid show Saturday night in the Copper Conference Center. Tickets for the Blackalicious show are $10 at the door or in advance at Copper’s Adventure Desk next to Camp Hale near the base of the American Eagle Chairlift.
Blackalicious emerged from the influential San Francisco Bay area indie scene of the mid-90’s. They burst onto the world stage and provided a roadmap for hundreds of underground artists to follow. Blackalicious generally favors what hip-hoppers call the “positive tip” over more negative lyrics and are more often spiritual and uplifting rather than violent or misogynistic. Although this is an all-ages-show, parental guidance is suggested as some material may not be appropriate for children.
In addition to the live music and film premiers, Lift Off also features equipment demos, giveaways and après parties. The Lift Off Demo Center allows guests a chance to test the latest and greatest ski and snowboard equipment from Salomon and Burton. Guests can ride the lucky Lift Off Chair on the American Eagle Chairlift and get a chance to win one of dozens of prizes including Beeline passes, lift tickets, rental vouchers, tickets to the Blackalicious show and the grand prize of four round trip airline tickets from Frontier. After a day of Lift Off fun, guests can enjoy various après parties throughout Copper with drink and food specials for every appetite.
