STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO--November 14, 2006--The winter storm that brought heaping snow to the Yampa Valley early Sunday morning, November 12th, left the Steamboat Ski Area with a foot and half of Champagne Powder® snow at the summit in the past 72 hours. Snow has continued to fall throughout today in Ski Town, U.S.A.®

"The ski season is a week away and Steamboat is off to a great start both with the recent snow and the completion of more than $7 million in capital improvements,” said Chris Diamond, president of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. "Mother Nature is picking up right where she left off last winter and conditions are looking fantastic in anticipation of opening day, November 22nd.”

As of 5:00 a.m. this morning, 9 inches had fallen at mid-mountain and 9 inches at the summit in a 24-hour period. Since 5:00 a.m. Sunday, an additional 8 inches had fallen at mid-mountain and 9 inches at the summit for a total of 17 inches and 18 inches respectively in the past 72 hours. Forecasts call for snow to continue throughout the day and begin tapering off late this evening. Steamboat has received 45 inches of snow at mid-mountain and 56 inches at the summit since Oct. 10th. This total doesn’t count the foot of snow that fell during September.

"Steamboat often receives big, consistent early season Champagne Powder® snow and this season is shaping up to be no different,” said Doug Allen, vice president of mountain operations for Steamboat. "The resort mountain crews have done a tremendous job taking full advantage what Mother Nature has provided including both natural snow and cold temperatures, which have been ideal for around-the-clock snowmaking.”

Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation will kick off the 2006/2007 season next Wednesday, November 22nd with a specially priced lift ticket for Scholarship Day, the traditional opening day benefit for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s (SSWSC) Scholarship Fund. Last year, Scholarship Day raised nearly $50,000. Since the inception of the program in 1991/1992, more than $480,000 has been generated for children participating in SSWSC programs.
