BEO7 Slopestyle cancelled in Laax

BEO7 Slopestyle cancelled in Laax

Tue 23 January 07

High winds and poor light up on the Vorab Glacier meant that the finals for the slopestyle have been unfortunately cancelled. The halfpipe comp is still on, and based lower down the mountain will hopefully ensure it runs.

Force-gale gusting winds and flat light on the Vorab Glacier forced organizers of the TTR SIX(6)STAR Burton European Open to put riders safety first, and cancel both mens and womens Slopestyle Finals scheduled for today, 22nd January, 2007.

Despite impressive attempts from Laax and the Burton European Open organizers to ensure a superb slopestyle was ready for the top riders of the world in the penultimate TTR SIX(6)STAR event of the season, the prevailing weather conditions finally laid the contest to rest, creating great disappointment to all involved. TTR Top Ten riders including current TTR World Nr 1 Antti Autti (FIN), Travis Rice (USA), Mathieu Crepel (FRA), Risto Mattila (FIN), Markku Koski (FIN) & Cheryl Maas (NED) joined a huge line-up of top snowboard pros such as world-renown Olympic gold medalist, Shaun White (USA), ready to take the event title and up their ranking status on the TTR Ranking List presented by Swatch. With the slopestyle cancellation ensuring no official results, all TTR Ranking Points for the slopestyle format are now null and void.

Its a highly disappointing result with such an amazing rider field and well-built slopestyle park. But we totally back the decision based on the safety comes first approach and look forward to the next TTR halfpipe format at the BEO, stated TTR CEO, Drew Stevenson.

I was definitely looking forward to competing in my first Burton European Open contest. The course was super fun today until the weather rolled in. Im still glad I came because its always fun to be in Europe. I really hope I can come back next year and compete at the BEO, quoted Burton Global Team rider and Olympic gold medalist Shaun White.

Yet the show must go on - the Burton European Open 07 continues with its second TTR format, mens and womens Halfpipe, 25th-27th January, 2007, for the next installment of Tour drama as the worlds best freestyle snowboarders move their way closer to the TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion title.
