Mel C adds spice to end of season at Ischgl
Mon 30 April 07
More than 12,000 people turned out to see Melanie C in Ischgl's season-closing Top of the Mountain concert yesterday (Sunday 29 April).
With good snow holding out to the end of another great winter for the Tirolean resort – with Tuesday 1 May the final skiing day – the concert was the perfect big final event for the season.
Mel, who made her name as Sporty Spice in the Spice Girls, is very popular in Austria and Germany, as well as Britain, and skiers and boarders rocked along on the snow in the natural concert arena at the 2320m high Idalp top station. The lunchtime concert was free to all with a liftpass.
Ischgl Tourist Director Andreas Steibl said: "We were absolutely delighted to have Melanie C close our season. It was a great concert in perfect weather and carried on Ischgl's tradition of entertaining our visitors with not only fabulous skiing and boarding but great star names too."
Mel follows a distinguished parade of top stars to appear at the Austrian resort. The 06-07 season was opened by the Pussycat Dolls and Scissor Sisters performed on Easter Monday. The roll call of stars to perform in previous years includes Sir Elton John, Tina Turner, Sting, Lionel Richie, Jon Bon Jovi, Ronan Keating, Pink, Alanis Morissette, Bob Dylan and Enrique Iglesias.
