Snowpark NZ ready for the off

Thu 21 June 07
Kickers shaped, check. Rails & boxes out, check. 40cm snow, check. Opening friday!
Snow Park has 100% snow coverage for its season opening tomorrow (Friday 22 June) and for the first chair lift riders a true Kiwi welcome is planned.
The recent dry weather and ideal cool temperature have created perfect conditions for snowmaking and the guns have been blasting for nearly two weeks. The groomers have been busy compacting the snow to create a good firm base. “The terrain park is looking fantastic with over 40 cm on the trails, the light and dry snow quality will make for superb riding and skiing,” said Snow Park Manager, Sam Lee. “The boxes and rails are in place and we are looking forward to getting the freestyle action underway for the 2007 season.”
The first riders on the quad will be welcomed with traditional Kiwi fare receiving a pie and stubby as they board the lift for their first ride up the mountain.
The opening celebrations continue in to the evening with the ‘Wasup My Name is’ party in the new Woolshed Bar and Restaurant, the entertainment includes Djs Confucius and Mysterious D and Queenstown’s Sunshine Sound System with on-mountain accommodation specials also available.
For the 2007 season Snow Park has made some major investments developing a dedicated novice area ‘Half Pint Park’ to help riders progress into the freestyle world of snowboarding and skiing, and also the Snow Park Village incorporating luxury apartments, backpacker bunkrooms and a restaurant and bar.
Snow Park will open all areas of the terrain park tomorrow with first lift at 9.00am. For further information, snow reports and web cams, visit www.snowparknz.com
