new 6-seater detachable chairlift in Arinsal, a remodelled terrain park and the obligatory snowmaking improvements make up a 10million euro spend this season
The Andorran linked area Vallnord has invested 10 million euro this year with the objective of improving their installations and services. The new 6-seater detachable chairlift in Arinsal, and the extension and improvement of our innovative artificial network in the three sectors of the resort, are the main new introductions for this winter season 2008/09.
Arcalís Sector
Arcalís has worked to improve and extend the network of artificial snow with 15 more snow cannons situated between the slope of Portella del Mig and Basera.
Arcalís has also remodelled and adapted the blue slope of Túnel this season and improvements have been made in the slopes of Portella, with the enlargement of the narrowest part in order to further enjoy this ski space.
A new Leitner snow machine has been incorporated in preparation to offer a suitable surface to play snow sports.
Arinsal Sector
The most important introduction for the 2008/09 season in VALLNORD is the installation of the new 6-seater detachable chairlift in Arinsal. This new generation lift will allow a much faster connection from the town of Arinsal, at 1,550 metres altitude, with the central services of Comallempla, at 1,950 metres.
Installation of more snow cannons on the slopes of ‘la Pala’ optimizes the network of artificial snow at the station and guarantees the white element in almost 100% of the Arinsal sector.
This area will also have ready a new snow-levelling machine made by the prestigious firm of Kassbohrer with the objective of enabling the visitor to enjoy perfect slopes.
Another project which VALLNORD is working on at this time is the innovation of the slopes of Marrades, in Arinsal, which will be totally developed for winter 2009/10. The new route will offer the biggest descent in Andorra, more than 1000 metres from the Alt de la Capa, at 2,572 metres altitude, to the town of Arinsal at 1,550 metres and will be skiable throughout all the season.
Pal Sector
The Pal Sector is strengthened with the addition of a new ski-lift in the Pla de la Tosa, in Pic de Cubil. The new lift with double the capacity of thos who wish to go from the Pal Sector towards the Arinsal Sector, Setúria, or Coll de la Botella.
Improvements have also been made on the slopes of Camí Inferior from the Coll de la Botella towards Planell. Space has been increased and more snow cannons have been installed to connect the Sectors of Arinsal and Pal.
Freestyle improvements
The Snow Park and the Freestyle Area in the Arcalís Sector have been remodelled to surprise all riders.
Arcalís Snow Park
It offers a surface of more than 15,000 metres squared to practice this discipline. Situated at 2,100 metres altitude, on the slopes of Abetal parallel to the slopes of Estadi, the Arcalís Snow Park is suitable for experts and beginners alike and incorporates this year’s new model in addition to more space.
Boxes of all difficulties, double draws of all difficulties, double piped railings and rectangles, a Step – down, a big jump or a 5 metre table, are some of the models available in this dedicated freestyle space.
Arinsal Freestyle Area
With more than 40,000 square metres, the Arinsal Freestyle Area has distinctive spaces available: a FIS Half Pipe, a Big Jump zone, the Rail Avenue and the Junior Rails Zone.
Another of the big novelties is the opening in the Arinsal zone of a giant mattress to try out tricks and aerial acrobatics in total safety. 20 metres long and 10 metres wide it is an ideal zone to improve and evolve in freestyle.
