Winds gusting up to 140 km/hour and flat light combined caused the Swatch TTR 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam to be called off. Event organizers cancelled the competition after assessing the difficult weather conditions. “The weather didn’t let us ride the contest, but next year I’ll be back for sure because I think it is a great event for girls,” said Claudia Fliri.
The organizers were sad to announce the decision to the awaiting snowboarders and media, however, the riders’ safety was the main concern. “There is so much wind up there so we had to cancel the Roxy Chicken Jam here in Kaprun this year. I’m happy as it’s safer for everyone. Next year it is going to happen again for sure!” said Tina Birbaum, founder of the event.

Girls had arrived from all over the world for this top level competition where Top 5 ranking changes had been expected. Props go out to Thea Stenshagen (NOR), Charlotte Van Gills (NED) and Aimee Fuller (GBR), who all qualified with stylish runs and were ready to step it up in the final against the pros in attendance including Torah Bright (AUS), Kjersti Buaas (NOR), Cheryl Maas (NED) and Kimmy Fasani (USA). Both Maas and Fasani had the chance to move into World Nr. 2 with 1000 TTR ranking points up for grabs in one of snowboarding’s highest rated women only events.
The women’s TTR circus now hibernates until January, but be ready for the battle royale, the 6Star Burton European Open taking place January 9th 2009. It is here that the female riders will reconvene and continue to fight it out for the TTR World Tour trophy and their slice of the $200 000 USD end-of-season prize purse.
