Despite suffering from the effects of a heel injury, Zoe Gillings, Britain’s top rated snowboarder, finished 4th in last night’s FIS World Cup Snowboard Cross race in Stoneham, Canada.
The 23-year-old Isle of Man athlete will now take a break from racing. She is now ranked sixth in the world in her event, exactly on course to achieve her pre-season aim in the run-up to next year’s Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Today (Friday) Gillings commented: “I’m really happy I made it into the final especially as I was worried my injury may have kept me out of the competition altogether. It was a really exciting race and I now have a few days off to find a physio and get some intensive treatment. My aim is to finish the season ranked within the top six and this result takes me a step closer to that. With only three races to go I’m aiming for more top five finishes to ensure I make my target.”
