Some Portes du Soleil lifts have been open since the 10th of December, and this morning, following the recent snowfall, the lift companies confirmed that all links between resorts will open for the weekend as planned.
With more snow due overnight and on Friday conditions look promising for the weekend, and for holiday makers coming to ski at Christmas. The current snow coverage at 1800 meters is 95cm with 50 cm of fresh powder at midday on Thursday 15th December.
Bruno Cherblanc, director of the Portes du Soleil said ‘We are pleased to be able to open the Portes du Soleil ski area as planned. It’s great to see the resorts once again covered in a blanket of snow, and we looked forward to opening the full area to skiers this weekend.’
Jeannot Brunet, from the Service des Pistes in Châtel confirmed that ‘Part of the Portes du Soleil ski area is already open and we are busy preparing the rest. The next snowfalls will enable the full area to open this weekend.’
The lift pass prices will be at the usual rate of 37€ for a 5 hour pass (new for winter 2011-12!) and 43€ for a full Portes du Soleil day pass.
