Falls Creek and Perisher Receive Heavy Snow!
Falls Creek has been in the middle of a perfect storm for days.
The resort has had nearly 80cm since this storm started on Friday night, and could end up topping the metre mark by the time the sun comes out again on Wednesday. What a day Wednesday will be with predictions for a Bluebird day!
In the meantime, it's still snowing in Falls Creek and it's not just any old snow. The cold temperatures and the sustained intensity of this system are delivering ultra light, super dry powder snow. Whenever it's cold enough to snow down on the lowlands and foothills, as it did yesterday down to about 500 metres, you know the quality of the snow on the mountains is going to be something else again.
Falls Creek is getting the kind of snow people think you have to go to Hokkaido to find. It's pure Victorian alpine goodness, the kind of snow you can blow off your hands, and we’re getting it right here in our own big backyard. Veteran skiers and snowboarders know... when it's good here, it's as good as anywhere, and finding powder shots amongst the snowgums is extra special.
Currently the resort has 12 lifts running, and a new terrain park will be setup within up within days, and fun galore.
Perisher has not had it too bad either with 40cm of fresh snow in the past two days and the snow continues to fall! The Bureau is telling us to expect snowfalls for the next couple of days, which is great news!
