Billy Morgan impresses at Air + Style
Billy Morgan’s impressive return from injury continued at the weekend when he showed off his amazing skills at the prestigious Air + Style Snowboard Big Air event in Innsbruck.
Getting through to Round 3, after knocking out the great Max Parrot in the head to head heats, all was to play for in the 8-man final. Unfortunately, due tostrong winds the final could not run, taking the results from Round 2 as final, meaning Billy placed in an incredible fifth position.
At the Park City Halfpipe World Cup, Ben Kilner, who is on his way back from injury, unfortunately couldn’t put a run down in qualifiers. For the skiers, Murray Buchan finishing in 20th, James Machon 21st and Pete Speight 27th in a high standard men’s qualifying. For the women, Rowan Cheshire finished in 14th place, putting in a solid run, but also just missed out on a finals spot.
This week sees the Boston Ski and Snowboard Big Air taking place at the famous Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Snowboard kicks off on Thursday with Katie Ormerod, Rowan Coultas and Billy Morgan in competition, with ski following on Friday seeing Isabel Atkin, Katie Summerhayes and James Woods competing for Great Britain.
Winter Youth Olympic Games
The five British Ski and Snowboard athletes selected for the Winter Youth Olympic Games are on the way to Lillehammer for the Winter Youth Olympic Games, with action beginning on 12thFebraury. Competing for Team GB are Alpine skiers Yasmin Cooper (17, Chichester), Iain Innes (17, Edinburgh), Ski Cross athlete Isobel Brown (16, Ashbourne), and GB Park and Pipe skiers Cal Sandieson (17, Glasgow) who will compete in Slopestyle and Madi Rowlands (17, Maidstone) who will compete in Ski Slopestyle and Halfpipe.
