Boston World Cup Big Air kicks off
Today sees the start of the Big Air World Cup at the iconic Fenway Park in Boston, USA, home of the Boston Red Sox.
The snowboarders kick off the action today, with the skiers dropping in tomorrow. They will be battling it out on the 43 metre (140 ft) Big Air jump made out of scaffolding, situated in the centre of the stadium.
Riding for GB Park and Pipe are snowboarders Billy Morgan, Katie Ormerod and Big Air specialist Rowan Coultas. Then in action tomorrow for the skiers is James Woodsy Woods, Katie Summerhayes and Izzy Atkin.
Billy, Katie and Rowan will then move over to Stoneham in Canada to take part in the Quebec Big Air Snowboard World Cup on Saturday. You can follow all the action of the GB Park and Pipe Facebook page where the events will be live blogged.
Delancey British Alpine Team
Delancey Alpine Senior Squad athlete Charlie Guest had two solid results this week in the Europa Cup. Guest came 17th and 18th in two Slaloms in the Bulgarian resort of Pamporovo.
Dave Ryding is back in World Cup action this weekend over at the Yuzawa Naeba Slalom in Japan. The race is on Sunday, with the first run starting at 1am GMT and second run starting at 4am GMT.
British Aerials Team
After Lloyd Wallace’s best ever World Cup finish in Deer Valley last weekend, where he took 7th place overall, the British Aerials skier will now tackle the next World Cup in Moscow this Saturday. Lloyd will be hoping to equal his impressive result from last weekend against the best Aerials skiers in the world.
British Ski Cross
British Ski Cross racer Emily Sarsfield will tackle a technical course in the next World Cup in Idre Fjall in Sweden. Action kicks off tomorrow with qualification rounds. Finals run on both Saturday and Sunday.
British Nordic Team
The British Nordic Team is in Stockholm today for a World Cup Sprint Classic outside the Royal Palace. Unfortunately Andrew Young narrowly missed out on qualification for the final, and Annika Taylor wasn’t able to make the cut either. The team will now move over to Falun, Sweden to race in this weekend’s World Cup. Racing for Great Britain will be Andrew Musgrave, Andrew Young and Annika Taylor. The action starts on Saturday with the Men’s 10km Classic and Women’s 5km Classic. Then on Sunday it is the Men’s 15km Freestyle Mass-start and the 10km equivalent for the women.
Winter Youth Olympic Games
The Winter Youth Olympic Games kicks off this weekend, with five British Ski and Snowboard athletes competing for Team GB. Alpine races start on Saturday with Yasmin Cooper (17, Chichester) and Iain Innes (17, Edinburgh) in action. Ski Cross athlete Isobel Brown (16, Ashbourne) races on Monday and GB Park and Pipe’s Madi Rowlands (17, Maidstone) rides in the Ski Halfpipe on Sunday and Slopestyle next Friday. Cal Sandieson (17, Glasgow) competes in the Ski Slopestyle a week on Saturday.
