Perisher Blue Village 8 Express Chair Goes Green
Perisher Blue has recently concluded negotiations with Origin Energy for the Village 8 Express chairlift to be powered by 100% renewable ‘green’ energy for the upcoming 2007 winter season.
The Village 8 Express is the first of Perisher Blue’s 50 lifts to be powered by 100% renewable energy.
The switch to renewable energy is part of Perisher Blue’s commitment to improving its environmental management performance and to the ‘Keep Winter Cool’ initiative, launched by the Alpine Resorts Co-ordinating Council (ARCC), the Australian Alps Liaison Committee (AALC) and the Australian Ski Areas Association (ASAA) to improve public understanding of global warming and identify opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Richard Tuck, General Manager of Systems, Compliance and Resort Services, “Perisher Blue is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. Converting electricity use to renewable energy is an investment for the future.”
