ISCHGL OPENS ZIP-WIRE THRILL RIDE
Ischgl’s thrilling new attraction opens next week (13 August). Skyfly has two parallel zip-wires to whizz people two by two on a 2km adrenalin ride from the mountain right into the valley.
The €2m investment brings a new dimension to the dynamic activities on offer to holidaymakers to Ischgl, in the Austrian Tirol, which is a popular winter destination for skiers and snowboarders, and fast becoming the go-to summer spot with motorbiking, paragliding and mountain biking on offer as well as gentler culinary and hiking programmes.
Ischgl Skyfly starts at the Silvretta gondola mid-station at 1,683m and lands on the roof terrace of the valley station of the Pardatschgrat gondola in the valley at 1,376m. The cables are 50m above the ground and ‘flyers’ are expected to reach speeds of up to 84kph (approx. 52mph).
The route runs below the Kitzloch suspension bridge for pedestrians and passes through the Fimbabahn gondola route in spectacular fashion.
Skyfly will be open in summer and winter. In winter, it will offer an alternative route down from the slopes and ski and snowboard gear will be hooked up to fly down with their owners.
Children from as young as eight are able to use Skyfly as long as they are accompanied by an adult and up to the age of 14 they need parental or guardian consent. Skyfly costs €35 for adults and €21 for under 17s. In winter, Skyfly is not included in the skipass.
* Ischgl’s neighbouring village of Galtür has introduced the exciting sport of via ferrata to children this summer. Little Ballun is near the Birkhahn gondola top station and is a fixed rope climbing route designed for families and children from eight-years-old to gain their first mountain climbing experience.
The objective is to train the youngsters’ concentration, co-ordination and strength and stimulate a child’s sense of adventure. The altitude difference from start to finish is 100m and goes up to a heady 2,165m with views across the Silvretta and Verwall mountain ranges with stunning views of the village of Galtür.
Participants must use proper via ferrata equipment – which will enhance the experience – and includes carabiner-equipped lanyards, helmet, gloves and appropriate sturdy footwear.
