LAAX is the ‘World’s Best Freestyle Resort’
The skiing region of LAAX has once again triumphed at the World’s Best Ski Awards in Kitzbühel.
LAAX took first place in the ‘World’s Best Freestyle Resort’ category, defeating renowned international rivals such as Whistler Blackcomb, Mammoth Mountain, Breckenridge and Mayerhofen. LAAX has already secured the award for ‘Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort’ for the fourth year in succession.
The prestigious World’s Best Ski Awards were presented in Kitzbühel on Saturday, 19 November 2016. The World Ski Awards are part of the World Travel Awards, also known as the ‘Oscars of the travel industry’. The World Ski Awards are based both on a public and jury vote. The awards have been in existence since 2013. This year, the World’s Best Freestyle Resort was crowned for the first time. The addition of the Freestyle category highlights how freestyle skiing and snowboarding has gained in significance.
Innovation from Switzerland’s number one
The skiing region of LAAX is renowned for offering the latest ski lift systems, the best snow parks in Europe with the world’s largest halfpipe, the unique Freestyle Academy, the rocksresort design hotel, top restaurants and sustainable ‘Greenstyle’ projects. The LAAX INSIDE app, developed in-house, also makes it easier for visitors to get full value from the LAAX experience and spend more time on the mountain and in the valley. ‘Our future lies in the digitisation and progress. This is the only way to realise our plans and ensure the required flexibility and agility. Thankfully, we have already begun on this path,’ says Reto Gurtner, managing director of the Weisse Arena Gruppe. ‘I am delighted with the performance and passion shown by the entire team in LAAX. And I am thrilled that LAAX can now call itself the best ski resort in Switzerland and the best freestyle resort in the world. These two awards confirm that we have been on the right path for many years. I am very proud of this.’ The LAAX OPEN, Europe’s most important snowboard event, is the standout event of the winter and will take place in the award-winning LAAX region from 16 to 21 January 2017.
