This year, the Nendaz Freeride has reclaimed its place among the top worldwide competitions, Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) by being promoted to 4 stars. It also becomes the final to the Swiss Freeride Series, new freeride cup bringing together the principal Swiss events. After seven successful editions, it, therefore, affirms its position as a not-to-be-missed European competition for riders attempting to walk away with astonishing winnings of EUR 10’000.-.
Over 100 athletes set off for the qualifying runs, which take place on Friday the 14th of March on the north-west face of the Dent de Nendaz (the Marètze) from 9h30. To watch this spectacular show, the qualification leg village, accessible on skis from Tracouet is organised, where a DJ is providing the musical entertainment.
The final on Saturday, starts at 9h on the legendary Mont-Gond, easily accessible thanks to the new lift at the Plan du Fou. A marked and secure path allows the public to safely access the Red Bull Village, which gives a spectacular view over the slope and provides the spectators with food and drinks throughout the day as well as allowing them to make the most of the live running commentary of the competition.
In the men’s snowboard category, the three top places in the world ranking will be present to hopefully pass into the Freeride World Tour next year. The French Camille Armand (1st) and Clément Bochatay (2nd) are among the favourites, in front of the Austrian Flo Orley. Among the Swiss, we are hoping for good results from Simon Favez and Mike Aeschbach who both come from the Valais region.
In the women’s snowboard category, the battle promises to be tough between the Australian, Amber Schuecker, the Fin, Mikaela Hollsten and the Russian, Anna Orlova.
See you soon in Nendaz !
