New Managing Director for Nevis Ski area
Peter MacFarlane has been appointed Managing Director of Nevis Range.
He steps into the role of Managing Director from his role as Catering Manager. Peter joined the business as Head Chef when it opened as a ski resort in 1989 and became Catering manager in 1994. Peter has also held the position of Executive Director of the Board for the last 5 years.
During his tenure he has opened the new Pinemarten cafe bar at the gondola base station, and run large scale outside catering at various events held at Nevis Range, including the Mountain Bike World Cup. He is also currently overseeing a major refurbishment of the Snowgoose restaurant & bar located at the gondola top station, high on the slopes of Aonach Mor.
Peter said “I am really delighted to accept this position. Over my career here, I’ve watched the business diversify into new areas, such as mountain biking and ropes courses, and develop into a successful all year round sustainable tourism and activity business. We now have the opportunity to develop the business even further, and I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
Born only 6 miles from the Nevis Range resort in the village of Spean Bridge, Peter has worked in the hospitality industry in Lochaber most of his life. He is a keen skier and mountain biker.
The new leadership comes into effect at an important time of opportunity for Nevis Range. The company is completing significant ski infrastructure developments, including building a garage for its groomer machines on the upper slopes of the mountain and also building a 1.1mw Hydro scheme.
Jim Gunn, chair of the Board said “This is a great appointment and I wish Peter every success in his new role in the future. This is a very exciting time for the business and I am confident that Nevis Range will go from strength to strength. We wish Peter every success in his new appointment”.
Peter takes up his post in September and is replaced by existing Assistant Catering Manager Sarah Shepherd. Peter replaces Marian Austin who became MD in 2000 and who has stepped into a new role to drive forward a Hydro scheme and other development projects.
