Sir Steve Redgrave sails for Disability Snowsport
Sir Steve Redgrave sails for Disability Snowsport UK at annual Solent Challenge
On 15 September 2016, Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) held their annual corporate team building event, The Solent Challenge, just off the coast of Portsmouth.Guest of honour at this year’s event was Sir Steve Redgrave and his team of sailors consisted of British Association of Snowsport instructors and their partners (not the usual environment for skiers!). Sir Steve was sailing on a boat that was auctioned at the ParaSnowBall by Talentstream, a corporate training provider (next year’s ParaSnowBall will take place on 4 May 2017).
The aim of the event is for companies and individuals to build their teams on the water whilst also raising money for DSUK. The ten member teams receive a crash course on sailing during the morning of the event and then head out on Sunsail’s fleet of Match first 40 yachts. Once out on the water, the participants, with the help of their skippers and first mates, compete in a series of three races over varying courses.
This year’s event was the best attended Solent Challenge since its inception and it raised over £8,000 for the charity.
DSUK thanks all participants and companies that supported the challenge this year:
The Cooperative Group, Kingsland Drinks, Cordorniu UK, Accolade Wines UK, Watermill Winery, Vinimports, Champagne Lanson, Boutinot Wines, Concha Y Toro, Greene King, Westons Cider Mill, Kopparberg, Pernod Richard UK, Vintage Cellars, Free Run Wines, Enotia & Coe, Tony Jenkin Jones and Famille Perrin Vineyards.
The Solent Challenge will be returning again in 2017, if you’d like to take part please contact [email protected].
