Extraordinary season’s ending and spring sessions
All good things must come to an end, even the winter season at the Stubai Glacier. But before we could allow the shapers to go on their well-deserved summer vacations, they had to prepare everything for this year’s spring sessions.
The DC Copy & Paste Spring Sessions were a blast and an appropriate season ending for the Stubai Zoo.
Year after year the snow park at Austria’s largest glacier ski resort offers a spring setup beyond belief.
From April 4th until May 15th all freestyle fans benefited from the perfectly shaped Jib-/Easy-, Medium- and Pro-Line. For the first time in history, the spring session took place under the motto “copy & paste” with the overall aim of copying tricks and to win some special goodies from DC snowboarding.
The spring programme kicked off with the “DC Copy & Paste BBQ Session“ on April 10th. With spring like temperatures and a perfect blue bird, sizzling burgers and steaks on the BBQ and lots of keen shredders, this year’s spring session was off to a good start.
Title sponsor DC started the day off with a cash for tricks session for snowboarders and freeskiers on the medium kicker at the park base. As usual, the best trickswere rewarded with cash in large quantities. Afterwards the cash for tricks session relocated to the new post box rail. With € 1.000 up for grabs, the riders had the chance to prove their steeze on the new highlight obstacle “made by Schneestern”. As always when the Stubai Zoo invites for a contest, plenty of highly motivated riders were ready to thoroughly test the new obstacle with every trick in the book. One of the day’s best moments for sure was an ambitious trick battle between two snowboarders and a freeskier – a rare encounter, that we will hopefully get to see more often in future. Some of the DC team riders also seized the opportunity and filmed some of the trick snippets for the following “DC Copy & Paste Session”. The highlight clip of the BBQ session can be watched HERE.
As the name suggests, this year’s spring sessions were all about copying. To be precise, about copying tricks. Each week a new video showing a certain trick of one of the DC team riders was released on Facebook, Instagram and on pleasuremag.com and all motivated riders had the chance to copy the trick and share the result on the Stubai Zoo Facebook wall. . The best Copy & Paste versions of each trick got rewarded with DC goodies and individual trophies.
As exiting climax of the DC Copy & Paste Sessions the crowds were challenged by a real banger trick. They had to go the extra mile and show the jury a banger frontside 1080 to grab the coveted main prize: a DC outerwear combo including jacket and pants , a brand new DC snowboard as well as a private film shooting with one of the DC team riders and the DC film crew. In the end, Markus Sitzmann’s copy trick convinced everyone and will surely be seen again at his private DC filmshoot this fall at the Stubai Zoo.
Volker Fonqueur convinced the judges with his very stylish copy of the Cab 270 to regular while Thomas Kigle knocked one’s socks off by showing even two banger tricks, a Miller flip and a Frontside underflip 540.
