More Snow Means Vail Resorts Open More Terrain!
With just five days left until Christmas, Breckenridge Ski Resort opened Peak 10, its fifth and final peak this morning, providing access to some of Breck’s best black diamond terrain, including the South Side of Peak 10 via the Falcon Chair.
The resort is now 78 percent open with 2275 acres of skiable terrain. A large, winter storm system in the works will continue to make the holidays merry and white for skiers and riders starting Saturday night. Some forecasts predict snow from this storm could be measured in feet by the time it rolls through Colorado’s mountains Tuesday morning.
Just along I70, Vail Mountain has a lot to celebrate this holiday season with the most open terrain in the country! Mother Nature gifted the resort with more than two feet of fresh snow since Sunday, totaling more than 100 inches so far this winter season as the resort rapidly approaches the 100 percent open mark. Today, guests have access to more than 5,000 acres of developed ski and snowboard terrain on Vail Mountain.
“With plenty of new snow and nearly the entire mountain open at Vail, it’s going to be a truly unforgettable holiday season at the resort this year,” said Chris Jarnot, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. “Vail’s entire mountain operations team has been working incredibly hard to open the mountain as new snow has fallen on the slopes. Our guests have a lot to look forward to when they visit Vail during the holidays and throughout the 2014-2015 winter season.”
Vail’s operations team anticipates opening the remainder of the resort’s lifts and terrain very soon, as conditions permit.
Blue Sky Basin Celebrates 15 Years in January
Following the holidays, the celebration continues at Vail when the resort’s legendary Blue Sky Basin turns 15 in January. Since its opening in January 2000, Blue Sky Basin has been a favorite amongst locals and guests from around the world, offering skiers and snowboarders a distinct backcountry feel, complete with glades, cliffs, steeps, and often plenty of powder and fresh tracks! This season guests can celebrate 15 years of Blue Sky Basin by making turns down classic trails like Big Rock Park, Resolution, Champagne Glade and Lover’s Leap.
Plus, January is an all-around great time to visit Vail, and one of the many off-peak periods guests can enjoy throughout the winter season. Holiday crowds have come and gone, there are great deals to be found, and the majority of terrain on the mountain is open and beckoning for skiers and snowboarders to make turns down its wide-open slopes.
