X-Games kicks off today and more

The GB Park and Pipe snowboarders had a storming day in the Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup in Seiseralm, Italy yesterday. Billy Morgan qualified through to the finals first in his heat scoring a huge 93.25, Rowan Coultas was close behind scoring 90.00 to take second in the same heat, followed by Jamie Nicholls who took third in his heat, also going straight through to the final. Matt McCormick unfortunately just missed out on finals, finishing 11th in his heat. Aimee Fuller also put in a great performance to qualify for the Women’s finals in second place in her heat. Finals are tomorrow, with the action starting at 10.00 GMT.
The skiers are in action today in Ski Slopestyle World Cup qualifiers, also in Seiseralm, Italy. Competing in the women’s qualifiers this morning was Katie Summerhayes and Madi Rowlands. Summerhayes finished 8th, making it through to finals whilst Rowlands missed out on finals but places in a solid 13thplace. For the men, Cal Sandieson and Tyler Harding compete in qualifiers today. The finals take place on Saturday.
Katie Ormerod, James ‘Woodsy’ Woods, and Izzy Atkin are currently in Aspen, USA representing GB Park and Pipe at the X Games, which kick off today. In one of the most prestigious snowboard and freeski competitions of the season, Woodsy and Ormerod will go up against the world’s best with Izzy Atkin first alternate for women’s Ski Slopestyle. Both Woodsy and Ormerod are in action on Saturday in the Ski Slopestyle and Snowboard Slopestyle competitions, with Ormerod first alternate for the Big Air.
World University Games
Recognised as the second largest multi-sport Games in the world after the Olympics, the Winter University Games, or Winter Universiade, begins this Sunday in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Ten British Ski and Snowboard athletes will be competing in the Games, including Delancey British Alpine Ski Team athletes Alice MacAulay and Alex Barounos, British Moguls skiers Liam Keyes, Sam Jones and Elodie Wallace. Elodie will also feature in the Aerials competition. Calum Paton will compete in the Snowboard Slopestyle and Laurence Willows will compete in the Ski Cross, whilst Douglas Green, Rob Wagner and Gillian Finnerty will compete in the Snowboard Cross.
British Ski and Snowboard Cross
This weekend sees British Snowboard Cross athletes Kyle Wise and Murray Koller compete in the Snowboard Cross Europa Cup in Grasgehren, Germany.
