Ugly duckling of the 3 vallees. The influx of building in the 80s in prep for the winter olympics saw concrete monoliths scattering the pistes all over this resort. Off-piste can be really good on La Masse, although head the wrong way and end up a 3hr walk (on a non deep day) and a taxi ride back to your pad. Can get crowded on its day but can also offer some less crowded pistes of youre prepared to explore and snowboard in other less accessable areas. Terrain park sort of sucks, especially flanked by Val Thorens and Meribel. The guys who maintain the park (sorry if theres new management!) are too busy rolling spliffs to fix up the deteriorating kickers. cheap and a good base for the other resorts.

Visited Les Menuires in Spring 2004 - this resort makes Tignes look positively pretty. As a cheap(er) place to stay in the 3 valleys it's ok and a good base from which visit the other main resorts of Maribel and Val Thorens.

Runs are reasonably varied, best off piste and most challenging stuff is on La Masse, which fortunately isn't overrun with visitors from the other valleys.

Snowpark is small without its own lift - thighs are still burning from the trek back up to the top

Nightlife - nothing to write home about
