Pohorje and Areh, Slovenia
The Pohorje Mountains, lie south of Maribor, which is one of the biggest cities in Slovenia. The town has its own airport and is easy to reach by car or train and is only 12 miles from the Austrian border. The snow fall is rather unpredictable, although there is a lot of snowmaking. The whole resort is within the treeline and there's often amazing freeriding after a fresh dump. Pohorje and Areh are separate summits, the top lift stations are interconnected with a free shuttle bus running every hour. There's also catwalks connecting the different lifts but they're very flat and can be a pain in the arse. The Areh area is higher so there's better snow and no snowmaking necessary, unfortunately there's only a few drag-lifts. Pohorje on the opposite has excessive snow-making, longer runs, the gondola and chair lifts, night riding, and it takes you down all the way to the city.Hotel search
