World Snowboard Guide 11th edition

Pas de la Casa, Andorra

Introduction

Pas de La Casa forms part of the Grandvalira, the largest linked area in the Pyrénées, which is divided into 6 sectors (Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, Soldeu, Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa) and boasts 193 Km of pistes serviced by 64 modern lifts, 3 terrain parks, 1 half pipe, 2 permanent boardercross tracks and 4 off-piste routes accessed by a piste-groomer tow service. There’s talk of linking to Porte Puymorens in France at some stage.

Each year, the resort attracts more and more riders in groups of lively revellers at novice stage, looking for an easy resort to sample a few beginner bruises. Pas de La Casa takes ones side of the mountain and Grau Roig (pronounced ‘grau rosh’) the other. Both are lift-linked, offering a collective area of easy-to-master intermediate terrain, with an excellent walk to beginner slopes and a few advanced black runs which can be ridden over a day or two.

Snow conditions have been exceptional over the past few winters, often surpassing those of the Alpine resorts at certain times of year. You won’t experience the depth of snow that falls elsewhere, but it tops up frequently and the slopes are maintained in fantastic condition by the groomers who prepare 100% of the slopes every night.
