Soll, Austria
Introduction
Soll is the best known resort which collectively make the huge area of the Ski Welt 250km of piste. Its traditional and appealing village makes it one of Austria's most popular resorts for package tour operators. The Brits and the Dutch are here on mass, silly hats and dancing on the tables in your ski boots are the norm as is skiing, you’ll be lucky to see more than 20 other boarders a day.
Soll is located along a main road which links Scheffau, Ellmau and Going, this road means that the one bubble up to the slopes (which is often mobbed) is a good 10/15 minute walk away from the village, although there’s a free bus.
All the resorts of the ski welt are similar in style and character yet still have something different to offer, whether on the slopes, or around one of the traditional styled villages. The slopes here are ideal for boarders who think they can when everyone knows they can’t. The reds here should be blue and the blues often go up hill. It’s a great area for beginners but anyone else should stay and board in Westendorf which is by far the best riding area for anyone who can link turns.
Getting to this resort is very easy from either Salzburg (only 90 minutes away) or Innsbruck, however, trying to appreciate the opportunities on the slopes when you arrive is a different matter. Expert riders will soon tire of the resort while slow piste riders and beginners will love it. This is also a cool place if you're on a tight budget and planning to take a cheap package holiday.
