Theres many small villages on the road to Stubai, the main one of note being Neusift, a 20 minute drive from the glacier. There you’ll find a good selection of hotels and pensions, some bars and restaurants. Probably the best place to stay is in Innsbruck, although it takes about an hour by car to get there.

Eating
Theres a pretty good selection of mountain restaurants. Pick of the bunch in terms of variety is the Eisgrat offering the usual self service and a separate waiter served up stairs. The Jochdohle restaurant ia Austrias highest restaurant at 3,150m, hung from the rock face on a crane, its a futuristic self service restaurant serving, unfortunately really crap food.
Accomodation
The road towards the glacier is peppered with small villages, the main one of note being Neusift, a 20 minute drive from the glacier. There you'll find a good selection of hotels and pensions, some bars and restaurants. Theres also a small resort there, but with only a passing interest for beginners. Probably the best place to stay is in Innsbruck, although it takes about an hour by car to get there. There is one hotel at the foot of the glacier - the Alpen Sport Hotel, but the area becomes all but deserted once the apres ski has finished.
