Les Houches , France

Rated 7 out of 10

Small but adventurous

Fri 9 January 2004 Steve
At the opposite end of the Chamonix valley to Argentiere, Les Houches is a place that I reckon is very under rated. I was in Cham for my stag do with 9 friends, 2 of whom were beginner 'boarders. We decided to give Les Houches a go one day and we all loved it. It's quite small, but there is good mixture of pistes and most are tree-lined and in amongst the trees, with great views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding areas. Most people will end up at Le Tour or Grand Montets, but give Les Houches a go to get away from the crowds.

The downsides: there are a few Poma lifts and if you take the wrong piste down, you're foced to take these quite long drags up. Not ideal for beginners who are not familiar with Poma's (our 2 beginners fell off half way up and had to walk up the rest!)

I'd definitely go here again, but stay and party in Cham. I wouldn't have though the nightlife in Les Houches would be up to much, but I don't know for sure.
