Just 7km down the road from Tatranska Lomnica is Stary Smokovec. This tiny resort never makes it above the tree line, and proclaims a very short black, but it’s really a few meandering blues. There’s a long green which is lit at night and doubles as toboggan run, but the resorts best for leaving your beginner mates while you head off to Tatranska Lomnica.
Stary means Old, but Stary Smokovec has a modern, if small, central area based around the train station, consisting of: shops, a hire shop, and a few bars and restaurants. There are many hotels with the biggest being the huge imaginarily named Hotel Grand.
