Swiss Snow Board Holidays

Andermatt, Switzerland

Introduction

Andermatt is a very small resort, located close to the St.Gotthard Pass tunnel with a reputation for excellent powder snow that other resorts can only dream about. This may not be a massive resort, but what it does have is a respectable 1500 metres of vertical with some damn fine steeps, lots of off-piste and crowd-free slopes that are generally also skier free (apart from major holiday times) making Andermatt a great place to snowboard There is excellent terrain for advanced riders in soft boots and is noted for its testing runs that also appeal to intermediates who are beginning to sort out their riding. The area is split into four areas with the most testing terrain to be found on the Gemsstock slopes, easily reached from Andermatt by a two stage cable ride. From the top, you get to ride down some serious open steep bowls that eventually make their way to the base. However, to guarantee that you do get back to the base, you are well advised to use the services of a local guide.
