World Snowboard Guide Insurance

Zermatt, Switzerland

Introduction

Take the Autobahn N1 and N9 and travel along the E62 and then head up the mountain pass via Stadlen and St Niklaus and you will eventually arrive at Zermatt which is an impressive resort and sits in the direct shadow of the mighty Matterhorn. Zermatt is money mountain and not on the calling card of many snowboarders because its so damn expensive, although to be fair things seem to have got easier and more and more riders on a budget are managing to get by here, this is despite the fact that it is one of the most famous resorts in Europe, although it could be questioned why. Maybe its to do with it's very elitist status, but what the heck, this is a place that can be ridden in the summer up on Theodul Glacier when all the fur clad poser's have gone home, so it's not all bad news. Zermatt, with it's 230 kilometres of marked piste and countless acres of backcountry terrain is a very impressive place with a great mountain to ride that can also be covered with the opportunities of extensive heli-boarding on offer with trips up to the Monte Rosa at 4250 metres, the Alphubeljoch at 3782 metres and up to the Plateau Rosa at 3479 metres. The heli-boarding is not cheap at Zermatt with trips costing from 450 Chf. Still you don't need to take a helicopter in order to explore Zermatts fantastic terrain, because once you have made the hike to the first lifts form the main town, or in some cases taken the bus, and hit the slopes the array of lifts will whisk you up the mountain to numerous start of points. The mountain layout is a bit confusing and will take some piste map navigating before you can ride all the areas with ease, but stick in there because its worth getting it right in order to not got lost or not miss out on the best trails. On the slopes you will notice a lot of Italian poser's and your lift pass also covers the neighbouring Italian resort of Cervina.
