Heavenly, USA

Heavenly stretches over California and Nevada, operating from 4 lodges The Gondola and California base on one side with Boulder and Stagecoach on Nevada side. The new gondola that runs from downtown South Lake Tahoe makes access to the mountain easier however strictly speaking the terrain it accesses is not suitable for a total beginner . This is something that the resort is looking into.California base has beginner access to green terrain which is perfect for confidence building. You can, however, ride up the Gondola to look at the beautiful views of the Lake for a steep price. Heavenly has over 40 years of operation under its belt, as well as some of the largest snowboard/ski acreage in the US, and by far the biggest vertical out of the Lake Tahoe resorts. Snowboarders are drawn from afar, especially at weekends and during holidays. In the past, the International Snowboard Federation has held world cup events that have attracted riders from around the world, who came for the challenge of a big mountain with hardcore terrain. However, Heavenly is not just for the pro's - there is something here for everyone - but the slopes do favour riders of intermediate and advanced levels, with steeps and big air possibilities on double black diamond runs, like those of Mott & Killebrew Canyons and the Gunbarrel. The snowboard parks are well maintained and thought out although compared to neighbouring resorts could be accused of being less progressive. The resort is attempting to build a micro park for first time freestylers to address this situation.

Its American! On a normal snow day well groomed trails and easy to follow maps, although not that much in terms of steeps on piste. However on a powder day almost ridiculous in terms of off piste riding both in terms of quality and accessability. 4 snowboard parks all well maintained ranging from Groove at Cal Base for beginners to High Roller off Canyon chair for some seriously large features.
