Argentina and Chile resorts enjoy a great start!
Whilst other countries maybe struggling for the white stuff many resorts in Argentina and Chile fared a lot better for their opening weekend. There is already a healthy snow base in many of the resorts thanks to some early season snow dumps.
Valle Nevado in Chile opened on Friday the 13th after heavy early snowfall, this was two weeks before the scheduled date for the 2014 season. The El Niño weather patterns led to these favourable conditions across the central Andes.
The start to the season has smashed all expectations and the resort already has three feet of snow. Valle Nevado’s hotels will open on Friday June 27, however most trails, restaurants and other services are already open for business.
Also, as part of Valle Nevado’s USD $150 million Master Development Project that seeks to turn Valle Nevado into the first full service mountain village in the region, the resort announces the inauguration of a new restaurant, La Leñera, serving hearty mountain fare in a cozy lodge setting, as well as two new apartment buildings, El Plomo and Tupungato.
Volcan Osorno had to delay it’s opening till 28th of June due to a front of bad weather that occurred. The good news is that if you are planning on going this weekend they are offering dicounst of upto 50% off the season lift pass until the 28th of June.
In Argentina Las Lenas is enjying the snow and the World Cup by the looks of things. The resort saw healthy snowfall throughtout May and June. This has led to most slopes been open and a healthy base of 50 cm of groomed snow at resort level and 70 cm at the resort summit
