WOULDN’T IT BE NICE TO DINE OUT IN ISCHGL
Ischgl will be serving up treats both on and off the slopes when the new winter season opens this week (Thursday 26 November).
Fresh snowfall guarantees perfectly groomed pistes and on Saturday (28 November) the Beach Boys bring their California sound to this luxury ski resort in the Austrian Tirol to celebrate the launch of the five month long winter season.
And in the evenings, the village’s extraordinarily high quality restaurants will be dishing up the gourmet feasts that have just earned them top new awards and distinctions in next year’s editions of Austria’s most influential guides of Gault Millau 2016 and Guide A La Carte 2016.
The newest awards mean that Ischgl – with a permanent population of just 1600 – has 13 new toques (the chef’s hat symbol awarded by gourmet organisations) across five restaurants and that it is home to three of the six best-ranked Tirolean gourmet restaurants.
The five to receive the awards are Martin Sieberer, chef de cuisine at the Paznauner Stube in the 5* Hotel Trofana Royal; Benjamin Parth, chef de cuisine at Restaurant Stüva in the 4* Hotel Yscla; Restaurant MAD in the 4* Designhotel Madlein; Gunther Döbler from the Schlossherrnstube in the 4* superior Schlosshotel Romantica; and Klaus Brunmayer, chef de cuisine at the restaurant Lucy Wang.
Alfons Parth, the Chairman of the Paznaun-Ischgl Tourist Office said: “As a region we think it’s great to be represented with five restaurants in Austria’s leading gourmet guides and we have managed to make the culinary theme an integral part of the services and attractions we offer to visitors.
“This goes hand in hand with the continuing further development of the overall restaurant scene in Paznaun. Thus we can take great pride in the high level of top gastronomy.”
Culinary events are held on the mountain in both winter and summer with top chefs from all over Europe invited to take part in the Star Cup of Chefs and Skiing World Cup of Gastronomy, both are skiing and food events held in April; plus the Culinary Jakobsweg hiking trail in summer in which Michelin-starred UK chefs Matthew Tomkinson and Russell Brown have taken part.
