Chapelco, Argentina
Introduction
Just above the town of San Martin De Los Andes lies the resort of Chapelco which despite being a small resort still offers a big variety of terrain for all types and levels of rider. The arrival of a new resort director has led to the development of a number of snowboard friendly policies on the mountain, including the construction of a permanent halfpipe accessed from the Palito drag lift, and a programme of snowboard demos and freestyle classes. A low elevation means unreliable snow cover at the base area but up at the mid station things are usually fine. The resort has a good reputation among Argentine boarders, but due to its North facing aspect suffers unreliable snow conditions at times. The slopes are equipped with a modern lift system and a number of mountain cafes. But note, food and drink on the mountain is expensive.
