Limone, Italy
Introduction
Limone is located south of Turin and only a short distance from the French-Italian border. Limone is a traditional Italian town with a past that involves the railways. Today however, this relatively unknown holiday destination is a simple place that attracts summer and winter tourists to sample its holiday attractions - which include great mountains. The old sprawling town sits at the base of an impressive set of high peaks, with the 2344 metre summit of the Cima Pepino mountain well within sight.
Outside of Italy, Limone is not widely known as a ski or snowboard destination, which can be a bit of a blessing as it means it's not tainted with mass package ski tour groups. But on the downside, not being the most popular of places can often mean a lack of ongoing resort development.
Still, this may not be a big fancy resort boasting loads of steep challenging slopes, but you can nevertheless have a great time riding on slopes that can fill up with weekend visitors but are empty during the mid-week period.
This is a simple resort that is suited to intermediate riders, and very little to offer expert riders. Advanced riders will find some interesting terrain, but it won't take more than a few days to ride-out. The other big drawback about Limone is its annual snow record. Its close proximity to the Mediterranean sea means that this is not a resort blessed with heaps of regular snow, and snowmaking facilities are limited.
