Termas de Chillan

Termas De Chillan is a small resort positioned on the south facing slopes of a dormant volcano and boasts the longest season of any of the S. American resorts. Despite a good snow record the resort has done little to make the most of it and offers only three ageing chairlifts and three drags. Most of the terrain is above treeline with the lower chair retrieving adventurous boarders from the trees and depositing them back at the base. The upper chair, Don Otto, not only accesses the best freeriding terrain on the mountain, but also holds the record for being the longest chairlift in S. America (2.5 Km). It is also one of the oldest and slowest and its frequent closure whenever the wind blows, means it's long overdue for replacement. The alternative when this chair is down is to ride a succession of three drags, (the middle poma holding the record for 'most blokes rendered infertile') to access some neat gullies with big banks. Plans have been made to extend the top drag further into the higher terrain which otherwise is rewarding but the hike-to country.
