Big Sky is a typical corporate style resort which only goes back to around 1973, when the place was first built aided by millions of corporate dollars. Located just south of Bozeman in the northern Rockies, Big Sky is an impressive place, where you can do some serious riding on crowd-free slopes that rise above the tree lines. The rideable area is reached by Big Sky's tram and is spread over Andesite Mountain and Lone Mountain, which rise up to 3,400 meters. This has led to the claim that Big Sky has the largest vertical in the US. The two mountains, with a total of 100 trails, are connected by just seventeen lifts, consisting of some very fast chair lifts that can move 20,000 people uphill per hour.
