New Snow at Coronet Peak & The Remarkables
Tue 26 June 12
Snow is still falling in the Queenstown region today dusting the resort in a winter white glow, perfect for the last half of the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival. More snow is expected through until Thursday.
Hamish McCrostie, Ski Area Manager at Coronet Peak couldn’t be more delighted. “We couldn’t have picked it better” He said, “Mother Nature has delivered right on cue. All the lifts and facilities will be open by the weekend, including the ice bar at the top of Greengates Express, and the popular Heidi’s Hut over in Rocky Gully, so we are ready to welcome skiers and boarders from around the country and across the ditch”.
Ross Lawrence, The Remarkables Ski Area Manager, is just as happy. “40cm of snow over the last 48 hours has given us just the coverage we need to provide fantastic conditions for skiers, boarders and families to enjoy the variety of areas we have up here” he said. And if it stays cold over the next few days, we will have Shadow Chairlift open by the weekend with some great lines of untracked powder”.
The scene is perfectly set for some great skiing and snow boarding across the two Queenstown Ski Areas through the school holiday period and beyond. And to top it off, night skiing at Coronet Peak starts this Friday, with First Tracks starting on Monday 2 July.
