Earthworks are underway at Cardrona Alpine Resort to develop a new intermediate freestyle ski and snowboard terrain park for the coming winter season.

The new park will be Cardrona’s fourth and will include a ‘triple jump line’ with jumps ranging from 16ft (5m) to 32ft (10m) in length (lip to knuckle) and some additional rails and boxes.
Cardrona Services Manager Bridget Legnavsky says Cardrona is well known for its excellent beginner terrain park and world class elite facilities, including its World Cup 22ft Halfpipe and World Cup Slopestyle Course, but what has been missing is something that sits in-between.

“This new terrain park will offer an intermediate option so recreational skiers and boarders, and younger New Zealand athletes, can progress from the beginner park to more advanced freestyle terrain,” says Bridget.
The new intermediate ‘triple jump line’ will be located in the Main Basin and won’t impede on any groomed trails.

Bridget says this new facility is about Cardrona being able to develop and cater for all skiers and snowboarders from beginners through to the world’s best elite athletes.

“Twenty-one of the freestyle athletes who trained at Cardrona in 2013 went on to win Olympic medals at Sochi this year, which says a lot about the quality of our existing elite facilities,” says Bridget.
Cardrona 2014 Season passes went on sale March 1st with early bird rates running through until March 31st.

“We are really pleased that under the new ownership of Real Journeys we have been able to hold our Season Pass Rates for the second year running – despite continued investment in facilities and infrastructure.”
Cardrona is scheduled to open on June 20th.
