The last four months have seen hundreds of people sign Snowsport England’s Slide2Sochi snowball with good luck messages to the skiers and snowboarders who will make up Team GB for the forthcoming Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. The Slide2Sochi snowball has now been presented to the athletes, represented by Murray Buchan, Rowan Cheshire, Katie Summerhayes, James Machon and Ben Kilner just days after their selection to Team GB (See attached photo).
The snowball has been touring the country with the Slide2Sochi roadshows, which have so far visited 20 indoor snow centres and outdoor ski slopes from Pendle to Southampton. Thousands of people have attended the Slide2Sochi roadshows, a Snowsport England initiative, with hundreds of people trying skiing or snowboarding for the first time as part of the GO SKI GO BOARD ‘TRY’ skiing or snowboarding sessions.
There are three remaining Slide2Sochi roadshows; on the 6th February at the John Nike Ski Slope in Bracknell, Silksworth Ski in Sunderland on 15th February and Snowtrax in Dorset on 16th February. The Slide2Sochi roadshows are aimed at getting people excited and engaged in snowsports in the lead up to, during and after the Winter Olympics, and showing them how easy it is to get involved in the snowsports.
For those people who haven’t attended a Slide2Sochi roadshow, but want to give skiing or snowboarding a go, there is GO SKI GO BOARD, the largest ever national snowsports participation campaign aimed at getting more people into and back into snowsports. Run by national governing body Snowsport England and supported by the Austrian Tirol as exclusive destination partner, it has brought together a network of the UK’s indoor and artificial snow slopes to offer value for money taster, beginner, improver and recreational sessions for people whose imagination has been captured by our skiing and snowboarding stars.
