Sustainable Holidays Hitting the Mainstream
TUI Group of which Crystal Ski Holidays is part of has published the 2016 progress report for its sustainability strategy
The report ‘Better Holidays, Better World’ – step lightly, make a difference, lead the way.
The data in the report suggests that 2016 was the year that sustainable tourism became mainstream.
Highlights from the 2016 progress report:
· Over 90% of Crystal’s flights are on Thomson Airways who rank #2 most efficient charter airline in the 2016 global atmosfair index (TUI fly ranked #1). These two airlines continue to be up to 30% more efficient than the industry norm
· Crystal offers holidays to nearly 20 hotels certified to a Global Sustainable Tourism Council recognised certification. TUI overall offers 1,170 hotels with a sustainability certification and 6.3 million customers booked a ’greener and fairer’ holiday.
· Crystal raised so far nearly £400,000 for the charity Disability Snowsport UK and overall, TUI raised €6.6 million for sustainability projects (+22% year- on-year)
· Overall, TUI saved €67 million through environmental efficiencies since 2012
"The results in the current progress report are very encouraging and show that the strategy is lived and promoted on all levels of the company", says Fritz Joussen, chief executive TUI Group. "With 6.3 million 'greener and fairer' holidays in 2016 sustainable travel is on track to going mainstream. However, there is still ground to cover to meet our 2020 commitments."
Chris Logan, managing director Crystal Ski Holidays, added: "We’ve worked hard over many years to develop more sustainable holiday offerings and customers value more sustainable travel as it enhances the authenticity of their holiday experiences."
