The stars are out in Ischgl
Skiers and boarders will find themselves riding up the mountain in the company of superstars on a luxurious new six-seater chairlift in the Tirolean resort of Ischgl this season.
Each chair is dedicated to one of the top international stars who have played the village's Top Of The Mountain concerts. The images of the entertainers are emblazoned across the backs of the chairs on the new 12-million euro Palinkopf chair. Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Lionel Richie and Elton John are just some of the celebrities depicted.
The lift is also a pampering experience, with padded and heated upholstered seats, weather hoods and safety lock bars. It takes just under six minutes to travel 1,577 metres and ascend 440 metres to the Palinkopf mountain at 2,853m and has the capacity to carry 2,800 people per hour.
The old 4-seater lift completed 20 years’ service and transported approximately 12m people and has been sold on to a resort in Finland.
Also new for 2017/18 is the Viderböden reservoir, which replaces the Idalp reservoir. Viderböden has a cubic capacity of 52,000, as opposed to the 32,000 of the Idalp lake, and is essential to support Ischgl’s impressive snow-making facility which boasts 1,100 snow cannons and lances. The new 4.5-million euro reservoir is heart-shaped and thus represents the ‘transplant’ from one site to another to ensure the resort’s snow lifeline.
