Aimee Fuller wins Pleasure Jam 2012!

Mon 12 Nov 12

The 10th anniversary of the O’Neill Pleasure jam came to a close in tough conditions!

Strong winds and reschedule starting time did nothing to dampen the atmosphere that had built up on the Dachstein Glacier for the 10th edition of the O'Neill Pleasure Jam.

It was a good day for the Brits as Aimee Fuller repeated last years title success in the women’s event and our very own Jamie Nichols came in a respectable third place.

The overall men’s title was lifted by Eric Beauchemin closely followed by Wern Stock in second place.

It was the girls who started the day off, the crowds were cheering and the sun even came out for a brief period. Defending her championship Aimee Fuller laid down an opening run that stomped her authority on the contest, is was a position she was not going to give up all day and saw her secure her role as the favourite rider of the contest and a prize fund of $2,000. Winning the event also saw Aimee receive the honour of an invitational place at the TTR 5* Red Bull Nashan Open 2012 which is due to take place in China.

Speaking about her achievement Aimee said the following:

“I absolutely love this place, I mean, Dachstein is great, the course is awesome, we`ve been super lucky with the weather. I gave it my all and I managed my run. Not what I hoped but I landed on my feet. It was a good event.”

Despite Aimee’s dominance Swiss rider Isabel Derungs put in two strong runs that got her a hard earned second place, she was closely followed by the Slovenian Urkska Pribosic and Jenia Goldman from Russia who was able to win the prize for best trick when she threw down a Backside 540 Indy.

In the men’s event Eric Beauchemin was pushed hard but successfully fought of the competition of Werner Stock and Jamie Nicholls to take the title. By 11 am winds had reached 60 km an hour and high up on the glacier fears for the safety of the riders began to grow. It was decided to have a short break in the men’s event to see if the weather would improve. The judges decided to go ahead but this decision was quickly changed due to the weather situation not improving. Given the circumstance the judges decided to award placings on the 1st run only this meant Beauchemin won the $4,000 prize money for his impressive first run.

Of the event Beauchemin said

“I liked the course much more than in the last years, they made everything a bit smaller, like one less jump, but I liked the rails they had this year. Usually there was only the wallride at the end and three jumps, but this year, it was like a straight rail and a rainbow, which really was fun.”

Jamie Nichols may have come in third place behind the Austrian Werner Stock but he was still able to win the best trick prize with a Frontside Tasilbluntside 450 Out.

Speaking about his placing Jamie said:

“It`s amazing – this is my fourth year and every time I`ve been so unlucky. The first year, it was OK but I was kind of scared and nervous but that was like 4 years ago and I got into it. The second year I did my ankle, third year I fell in the finals and this year I got third and won Best Trick – so, pretty good.”

All in all O'Neill Pleasure Jam was a great success which saw some amazing riding is tough conditions. The success of the British riders only added to the atmosphere of a great event that carried on long after the winners were announced!
