British Snowboard athletes in action this weekend

Fri 10 Feb 17
Katie Ormerod

This weekend the GB Park and Pipe team are in Quebec City for the Big Air and Slopestyle World Cup, also known as the Snowjamboree World Cup.

Both the skiers and snowboarders are competing in both disciplines, with qualification for the Ski Slopestyle and Snowboard Big Air taking place yesterday

Fresh from his historic Big Air victory at the Aspen X Games, James ‘Woodsy’ Woods shone again, qualifying first in his heat. With only four from each heat making it through to finals, Isabel Atkin missed out by just one place as she finished 5th in her heat.  Just behind her was Katie Summerhayes in 9th. Tyler Harding finished 10th and Cal Sandieson placed 13th. Big Air qualification starts today.

The Snowboard Big Air event completes the final leg of the three stage Big Air Super Series, following previous stages in Milan and Moenchengladbach earlier this season. Unfortunately it was a tough day in qualification for the GB Park and Pipe snowboarders on a gnarly jump. With the top six qualifying in each heat for the women, Katie Ormerod crashed in her attempt to land a cab 9, eventually finishing in 11th place. Behind her was Aimee Fuller in 14th. For the men, Rowan Coultas finished in 11th place, missing out on finals, as did Matt McCormick despite two clean back dub tens. Billy Morgan and Jamie Nicholls DNS the second jump. Snowboard Slopestyle qualification is today.

British Ski and Snowboard Cross

Yesterday saw the start of the Idre Fjall Ski Cross World Cup in Sweden, with two World Cup races scheduled. Emily Sarsfield and Pam Thorburn unfortunately missed out on qualification for the first event’s final, with Emily finishing 19th, and Pam 23rd, but both will get another chance to qualify for the second World Cup competition which takes place today.

Zoe Gillings-Brier and Maisie Potter are both representing at the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Feldberg, Germany. Qualification starts today.

British Aerials Team

British Aerials Team skier Lloyd Wallace is in South Korea for the World Cup and Olympic test event at the Bokwang Phoenix Park. He competes today in the third round of Olympic Test events held in Bokwang after the success of Slopestyle and Ski Cross earlier this year.

British Moguls Team

Four British athletes will tackle the Gaissau Moguls Europa Cup in Austria from 11th-12th February. Competing for Great Britain is Leonie Gerken Schofield, Makayla Gerken Schofield, Thomas Gerken Schofield and Will Feneley.

Winter Universiade

Last week saw the start of the World University Games, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, seeing a team of 10 British University athletes challenging. Rounding up the British athletes competitions was Alpine athlete Alex Barounos and Ski Cross’ Laurence Willows on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Barounos did not finish his second run in the Slalom and Laurence finished in the middle of the field, with a respectable 16th place. This rounds off a great few days of competing for the British athletes and the Games, and huge congratulations go to the GBR Men’s Curling Team for their Gold Medal.

Erzurum 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival
