The 2017 CSS prize giving took place at Snowfactor, Braehead and also featured a jam session for all those who attended, supported by CSS sponsor Delancey. GB Park and Pipe athletes and Olympians Billy Morgan and Murray Buchan helped proceedings by handing out £7000 in prize money and gift vouchers to the winnings teams and individuals. This year’s generous prize purse was donated by sponsors The Snowboard Asylum, Ellis Brigham and Delancey.

All individual prize winners received £50 to spend at The Snowboard Asylum and Ellis Brigham. A light was shone on some of the names to look out for in the next few years as they work their way towards the GB Park and Pipe main team.

The Most Valuable Player prizes were amongst the most prestigious: for Championship Snowboarding, Lewis Moore (Bearsden) and Cerys Allen (Hemel) claimed the male and female awards, and for Skiing, Chris McCormick (Bearsden) andKirsty Muir (Aberdeen) took the Overall Most Valuable Player awards, with Kirsty also securing the Female Young Gun award. Mark Donnelly (Braehead) picked up a special prize – the Judges Award – given to the rider who impressed the judges throughout the competition.

Bearsden were the team on fire all season, winning both the ski and snowboard competitions and bagging a total of £4000 in prize money. The second-placed teams – Braehead in snowboard and Aberdeen in ski – each won £1000.

“We were stoked to take both titles in the first year but to do it again this year is fantastic,” said Neil MacGrain of Bearsden. “The teams worked hard each round and with some tough competition we knew it would be a battle right to the end.

“All credit to the team (and parents) for making the countless sessions happen and a desire not to be content with mediocrity, as this determination is needed for those who want to keep on pushing to improve in snowsports.

“The prize money will be invested in new equipment and the riders will put some towards the costs of their seasons, both of which will continue to support the progression of the sport.”

There were also awards made to the winners of CSS Micro Machines, a competition aimed at younger snowboarders and skiers. Eleven-year-old Euan Rogers (Aberdeen) and 10-year-old Mia Brookes (Chill Factore) took the top snowboarder spots. Eleven-year-old Fiona Muir (Aberdeen) was crowned best female skier and 12-year-old Bradley Fry (Tamworth) was best male. “It’s been fantastic to see how much all the teams and riders have enjoyed taking part in CSS this year,” said Hamish McKnight, GB Park and Pipe Head Snowboard Coach. “Each team working together to help each other produce their best and progress along with the support of their slope.

“Thank you to everyone who’s been involved.”
